What is Job Development?

The purpose of job development is to place a client on a job in the community working for a business where persons with disabilities are integrated into the workforce. GUES achieves this goal through a number of objectives, including:

  • Identifying available job openings consistent with the client’s disability, interests, preferences and aptitudes
  • Maintaining a job search log of employers contacted by the client
  • Contacting employers to develop a job specific to the client’s Individual Plan for Employment (IPE)
  • Marketing the client to the employer
  • Accompanying the client to interviews, if necessary
  • Assisting the client in completing and submitting job applications, if necessary
  • Advising the client on interviewing, resume revisions and follow up strategies
  • Recommending work station modifications, if necessary

Each job will be developed specific to the client within a business or industry that pays at or above minimum wage, and offers benefits where possible.
