Assessment and Evaluation Services are designed to assist a consumer seeking employment to learn about employment opportunities within the community and to make informed decisions.

The assessments are instrumental in determining what barriers and strengths impact the consumer’s success in the community. They also help the DRS counselors and GUES employment specialists to determine the consumer’s preferences for particular job sites, as well as the specific types and level of supports necessary.

GUES situational assessments are location-specific to the Greater Richmond, VA community. Each assessment is conducted at one or more integrated work sites, at businesses that are representative of the type of work desired by the client.

Situational Assessment – Individual

GUES utilizes Individual Situational Assessments to determine vocational options, direction, goals and training strategies for the consumer and the counselor.

The situational assessment provides information about the individual’s ability to function in an on-site job training program leading to supported employment. It also helps determine the need for ongoing support services in order to perform competitive work, as well as the consumer’s ability to work in an integrated employment setting at the time of their placement into a job.

Situational Assessment – Group

Group assessments occur in an enclave or mobile work crew where GUES employment specialists determine the consumer’s work habits, behavior and motor skills using real, paid work. The purpose of the assessment is to determine:

  • The consumer’s ability to work at a competitive rate
  • The client’s transferable skills, work habits and behaviors, and
  • Recommendations for employment

As a best practice GUES will complete situational assessments in the enclave/mobile crew for a specific job or jobs to ensure the consumer is placed in the appropriate job before actual placement and training takes place.
